Self Determination Program (SDP)
Empowering the Next Gen Neurodiverse Workforce
to Work, Learn, and Belong
Our Self-Determination Program (SDP) Services empower individuals with developmental disabilities to take control of their support services through a flexible, person-centered approach.
Overview
Our Self-Determination Program (SDP) empowers individuals with developmental disabilities to take greater control of their services and supports through a flexible, person-centered approach that promotes choice, independence, and community connection.
How the Program Works
Under California’s Department of Developmental Services (DDS), SDP participants receive an individualized budget, based on their previous year of regional center-funded services or projected needs, that they can use to purchase supports aligned with their goals.
Breaking Barriers assists individuals throughout the process by:
-
Developing the Individual Program Plan (IPP) in collaboration with each participant and their support team.
-
Coordinating with Financial Management Services (FMS) providers to manage budgets and payments.
-
Connecting participants with Independent Facilitators to help navigate planning, hiring, and service coordination.
We support access to a wide range of services including vocational training, community integration, and educational supports, each tailored to the participant’s unique vision.
What Participants Gain
Through SDP, participants can access a wide range of opportunities such as:
-
Vocational training and employment readiness
-
Community integration and social participation
-
Educational supports and continued learning
-
Skill-building for independent living
By choosing Breaking Barriers as your SDP provider, you gain a partner committed to autonomy, dignity, and meaningful community involvement. With the right structure and guidance, every person can design a life rooted in purpose, opportunity, and self-direction
